Colour Throwdown

I’m really late with this, but although I love the colours in this Challenge, I found it really hard to pull a card together with them. Especially the background proved to be tough and I ended up with five (!) versions to choose from. Please check out the challenge by scrolling down. So here my card:

Stamping Lawn Fawn stamps in blue, green and pink for a color throwdown challenge

I started by cutting the banner with a Simon Says Stamp die. I used the Sunny Skies Stamp set from Lawn Fawn to create my little scene, stamping the images in spun sugar, cracked pistacio and tumbled glass distress inks. Over the staming I added clear embossing powder and melted it.Then I masked off the images and used the spun sugar ink through a Tim Holtz stencil to create the sunrays. The birds and sun I coloured in the same inks, using distress markers and a waterbrush. The sun got a coat of clear Wink of Stella and the birds got some shine and dimension by using Glossy Accents.

I cut my banner down to fit on a standard card base and added the slashed stitching where I cut it with a Lawn Fawn die. This gives it a finished look. Now started my dilemma with the background. I tried white blue and green, tried dry embossing those, stamped a tone in tone Baclground. But it was all to bold.

Then I matted the banner on a darker blue cardstock. That helped, but I still wasn’t happy. Finally I came up with a softer look by using the tumbled glass and a touch of salty ocean on watercolour paper.

Now, I just needed the finishing touches. I used a Lawn fawn die to create the stitching on the edges and added some Nuvo drops – my newest crafting favourites – and sequins and attached the panel on my card base.

Done and happy with it…
